The aim of this course is to introduce the participant to the basic techniques required in off-road mountain biking. Learn simple techniques to improve balance and control, how to set off safely, starting on a hill, basics on gears, safe use of brakes.Completion of this course, will equip the participant with the skills necessary to undertake our beginners full day course. The course will develop the rider's ability and confidence and will also introduce and reinforce safety awareness.

What experience you will need...
No off-road experience is necessary. Throughout this course, you will benefit from first-class instruction by a qualified mountain bike instructor, developing your skills alongside people at a similar level and great off- road riding at this excellent venue.

Your fitness level...
Off-road riding is by its very nature is more demanding than, say, riding along a canal or road. You will need a basic level of fitness which can be gained by a few aerobic work-outs per week on the run-up to the course: riding outdoors, stationary bike or spinning classes are perfect. Remember riding a bike develops specific muscle groups over a specific range which other forms of aerobic work-outs might not. If you are unsure of your fitness levels please contact us, we are always happy to help.

This said, by their nature, the courses are instruction orientated where techniques are demonstrated and explained in detail; all participants will then attempt and re-attempt the techniques to optimise individual skill levels.

The course will also cover :-

On the day...
Course starts at 9.30am and finishes at 1pm (approx).

Your bike...
Any mountain bike will do for this course but it is recommended that your bike be fitted with front suspension and off-road tyres for this course.

It is strongly recommended that the bike be fully serviced by a competent person prior to the course. Mountain Bike Skills suggest all riders using their own bike to bring with them a spare set of brake pads/blocks.

If you’re not sure of the suitability of your bike please contact us or you could consider hiring a bike for the day.
Bike Hire…

We have a selection of bikes for hire starting form as little as £15 per day for a basic hard-tail mountain bike with suspension forks.

Full suspension bikes are also available prices on request.

Further details and directions, will be emailed on receipt of booking / medical forms and payment (cheques payable to Mike Stafford or online)

Please check course dates for availability.
